Essential Travel Advice and Road Closure Updates (Autumn 2026 – Winter 2027)

If you are planning a trip to The Brightwell in Bradley Stoke, please be aware of upcoming major roadworks and 24/7 closures at the M4/M5 Almondsbury Interchange starting this October.
We ask that you check in at least 15 minutes before your planned therapy. Please allow extra time whilst these major roadworks are happenin
National Highways is undertaking essential structural repairs, waterproofing, concrete repairs, and barrier upgrades on two key flyover structures to future-proof the interchange and reduce the risk of future emergency roadworks.
Because The Brightwell is located right near the Almondsbury Interchange, these works are expected to cause extra congestion and delays on surrounding routes, including the M5 Junction 16, M4 Junction 22, and M32 Junction 1.
Key Closure Dates & Phases
🔹 Phase 1: M4 Westbound (J20) to M5 Northbound (J15)
Dates: 11 October 2026 – 4 December 2026
Impact: Closed 24/7.
Diversion Route: Traffic will be diverted via M5 Southbound Junction 16.
Travel Tip: M5 Junction 16 and M4 Junction 22 are expected to experience significantly heavier traffic than usual. Please allow at least 5–10 extra minutes for off-peak journeys and longer during peak hours.
🔹 Weekend Full Closure: M5 Junction 14
Dates: Friday, 30 October 2026 (8:00 PM) – Monday, 2 November 2026 (6:00 AM)
Impact: Full weekend closure of M5 Junction 14 (including entry/exit slip roads and the B4509) as part of preparatory repair work
Diversion Route: Traffic will be diverted via the A38.
🔹 Phase 2: M4 Eastbound (J20) to M5 Southbound (J16)
Dates: 13 December 2026 – 19 February 2027
Impact: Closed 24/7.
Diversion Route: Traffic will be diverted via M5 Junction 14.
Travel Tip: The official diversion route adds approximately 15 minutes during off-peak times. M4 Junction 19 and M32 Junction 1 are expected to be busier than normal.
Practical Advice for Visitors & Members
Allow Extra Time: Give yourself plenty of buffer time before scheduled appointments or therapy sessions at The Brightwell, especially if travelling during morning or evening peak travel hours.
Follow Signed Diversions: Official diversion signs will be clearly positioned along the motorways and main roads.
