Finding Hope and Support: Inside The Brightwell

Nestled in Bradley Stoke, Bristol, The Brightwell (which encompasses the West of England MS Therapy Centre) has spent more than 40 years helping people manage chronic neurological conditions, recover from physical injuries and regain their independence.
Far from a cold, clinical environment, The Brightwell is a warm community hub, designed to give members access to specialised, professional care. We suggest a contribution towards each therapy, but if that is more than you can manage, please talk to us: no one is turned away.
What People Are Saying: Google Reviews

The impact of The Brightwell's work shines through in its online feedback. Members, families and visitors consistently highlight the high quality of care, the welcoming atmosphere and the dedication of the staff.

"I have been using the Physiotherapy Department at The Brightwell for many years now. They are brilliant. Caring and concerned, they develop a series of exercises for you that stretch you and help you to maintain the physical ability that you have... Lots of parking, all set up for wheelchair users and such a friendly atmosphere."
"Such a brilliant centre. The staff and volunteers are so kind and helpful. The services they offer are professional and at really accessible prices. There is a warm and friendly atmosphere."
"I go to the centre every Wednesday morning to take part in an exercise session run by the physios. It is a great way to support my mobility, and we also have fun. There are similar classes at different times and days."

Comprehensive Therapies Offered at The Brightwell
Although the Centre was first established to support people living with Multiple Sclerosis, The Brightwell has broadened its care over the decades. Today it also supports people with Parkinson's, stroke recovery, fibromyalgia, Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Motor Neurone Disease amongst many others, as well as those recovering from sports injuries.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
One of the centre’s flagship services is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. During a session, members breathe pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. The increased atmospheric pressure allows the body to absorb significantly higher levels of oxygen into the bloodstream and tissues, aiding cellular repair, reducing inflammation, and combating chronic fatigue.
The Brightwell also provides tailored Oxygen Therapy for Sports Injuries, helping athletes accelerate the repair of strains, sprains, ligament damage and soft tissue injuries.
Physiotherapy & Neurophysiotherapy
Physical rehabilitation is tailored to each person's mobility and personal goals. The Brightwell offers a wide range of Physiotherapy.
One-to-One Neurophysiotherapy: specialist consultations focused on managing symptoms, improving balance and maintaining range of motion.
Exercise Groups & Classes: guided group sessions for different mobility levels, focusing on strength, flexibility and social interaction.
Online Classes: virtual movement sessions for members who prefer to exercise from home.
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Clinic
For members experiencing muscle weakness or "foot drop" caused by neurological conditions, the FES Clinic uses small electrical pulses to stimulate affected nerves, improving gait, stability and walking speed.
Complementary & Holistic Therapies
To complement physical rehabilitation, the centre offers a range of holistic wellbeing treatments through Specialist Clinics:
Acupuncture: targeted pain relief and symptom management.
Reflexology & Massage Therapy: relieves muscle tension, improves circulation and eases stress.
Counselling Services: emotional and psychological support for individuals and families navigating long-term health journeys.
More Than a Clinic: A Community Space
Beyond its structured therapies, The Brightwell offers The Brightwell Café, accessible parking, and fully adapted facilities. It is a social sanctuary where members share experiences over coffee, join social events, and build supportive networks.
